Coachella: Day One

Monday, April 25, 2016

Oh Coachella you beautiful thing of a weekend.

We flew into LAX Thursday before the first weekend of Coachella. After many of hours of traveling we finally made it to our house in La Quinta. It took all day to fly and then drive into the California desert...but so, so worth it. We were all exhausted on Thursday night and hung out at the house drinking, listening to music, and getting ourselves pumped up for the weekend ahead.

Friday morning rolled around and we all woke up super early, cooked breakfast together, and made our way to the pool. The best way to start your Coachella morning is by the pool with bottles of champagne. Lots of bottles. The pool was surrounded by palm trees and mountains - one of the many reasons I love this desert region.  The first artists we wanted to see weren't until later in the afternoon on Friday so it was quite nice to spend the day hanging out together and soaking up all the love and sun.

Mid-afternoon we got ourselves together and showered and made our way to the shuttle bus. Staying in La Quinta was one of the best decisions. The shuttle was only a 5 minute walk from our house and it was a direct ride into the Empire Polo Grounds (only about 10 minutes!). Once you're off the bus you have to trek your way into the grounds and go through a couple different lines for ID, wristband, and bag checks. It's a little exhausting under that hot desert sun but well worth it, obvs.

So once we finally made it into the grounds we headed straight for the first show: Goldroom! I LOVE Goldroom and am completely obsessed with Nikki Segal. She's the coolest. After Goldroom we saw Sam Feldt. Amaaaaazing. Check him out if you have not yet. We spent some time in the beer garden and then made our way to the main stage for Of Monsters and Men. I had never seen OMaM until this last weekend and they were incredible! They're one of my favorite bands and seeing them live was all the feels. Right after Of Monsters and Men was M83. Equally amazing. I've already looked up when I can see M83 live again - they were unbelievable. Something I love about Coachella is how you discover so many new amazing artists. Parov Stelar, I'm looking at you. They killed it on Friday night and I'm so glad I was able to see them live! We ended Friday with Jack U (love you Skrillex) and LCD Soundsystem. So the first day was pretty much a dream. A beautiful, sunny, vibrant dream.

What I wore Friday: lace up bodysuit, Levis high-waisted shorts, J.Crew combat boots (over 2+ years old but I love 'em). The festival style is the next best thing to music.
